An Army veteran from Massachusetts was sentenced to probation yesterday in DuPage County Court, after leaving a threatening message on an answering machine at St. Raphael in February of 2017. 49-year-old William MacKinnon, who has a history of mental health issues, was later arrested of the false report of a threat in April of 2017. MacKinnon pleaded guilty in May and was directed to report for treatment to a Veterans Administration facility upon his imminent release from the DuPage County jail.
Southwest Community Park
After multiple public meetings, Upland Design and Naperville Park District staff finally presented their Southwest Community Park Master Plan to the Board of Commissioners last night. The board approved Phase I of the plan, which will include amenities like a splash pad, a ninja course, and 1.78 miles of trails. Though an indoor pool was the most requested amenity, Executive Director Ray McGury said that due to the park being so far in the southwest corner of town, it wouldn’t be financially responsible to build an indoor pool there. Construction could begin as early as summer 2019, with Phase I potentially completed by the summer of 2020.
Greene Barn Open House
This weekend, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County wants the public’s input on the Greene Farm barn. Sitting on the corner of Hobson and Greene roads, the 19th-century barn has been left vacant since the 1980s, but now forest preserve officials say the timing is right to figure out what to do with the property. The forest preserve will host an open house this Saturday, inside the barn from 1-3 p.m.
