Naperville Now 06-13-18

Future of 5th Avenue:

The 5th Avenue development process continues. Last night, the steering committee reviewed the results of the land use survey and worked on guiding principles of the development, which encompasses 13 acres surrounding the Metra train station in Naperville. Discussions included using the train station as the focal point, the importance of green space, and respecting the residential nature of the surrounding area.

Renovated Playgrounds Re-Opening:

Yesterday, the Naperville Park District cut the ribbon on the first of five new playgrounds that have been renovated just in time for summer. Pembroke Park was rebuilt after gathering input from neighborhood residents, with additions like a larger shelter area and disability swings. The playground is designed for children aged 2-12. The Park District will have reopening ceremonies for the other four playgrounds over the next six weeks, starting with Century Farms Park next Tuesday.

Sweet Citation:

Safe cyclists in Naperville are getting a sweet reward. The Naperville Police Department has partnered with the Naperville Park District Police and Dunkin Donuts to treat those bikers following the rules with a coupon for a free donut. Some actions that could earn you the sugary citation include wearing a helmet, obeying traffic lights, and signaling to let motorists know you’re turning.

All-State Boys Lacrosse:

Yesterday we revealed the local All-State girls lacrosse members; today it’s the boys’ turn. The Illinois High School Lacrosse Association separates the All-State selections by position. Sectional champion Neuqua Valley has two All-State picks with Jack Trelo being picked as a midfielder and Miles Rathell making the list as a defender. Despite finishing 4th at the state tournament, Naperville North only has one All-State member. Senior Scotty Allgood is an All-State Attacker, leading the entire state in scoring for the Huskies by a wide margin. Congratulations to all the athletes on a great season.
