NPD Toddler Rescue

Last month, a Naperville police officer rescued a toddler wandering on Route 59. The youngster escaped his mother’s watchful eye, left his house and was found by Sgt. Anthony Mannino on the highway, just north of North Aurora Road. Luckily, no one was hurt. Sgt. Mannino was recently presented the Naperville Police Department’s Life Saving Award for this act of heroism on June 7.

District 204 Budget

Last night, the District 204 board approved a tentative budget totaling $340 million. Thanks to the state’s new Evidence Based Funding Formula, 204’s financial future looks a lot more stable than it did this time last year. Over the next five years, the district is projected to receive $37 million more than if the state hadn’t switched to this funding formula. That means 204 should be able to continue passing a balanced budget without dipping into deficit spending.

Wine Festival Tickets

Tickets are now on sale for the Naperville Wine Festival. The 16th annual event will feature more than 200 wines from around the world, taking place on the grounds of Naper Settlement. A portion of the festival’s proceeds will benefit the Naperville Area Humane Society as well. The festival runs August 24 and 25 and tickets can be purchased at Naperville wine festival dot com.

Girls Lacrosse Recognitions

Now that the high school sports season is over, it’s time for the spring sports accolades to be handed out. The first ever IHSA All-State girls lacrosse teams were named recently with several local athletes making the list. Raegan Woolwine from The Valley, the Waubonsie/Metea Valley co-op, is an honorable mention selection, along with Peyton Metry of Neuqua Valley and Naperville North’s Cristin Culbertson. The state’s leading goal scorer, Anna Schuster from Benet Academy was also an All-State honorable mention. Naperville North senior Lauren Platou was named first team All-State, leading the Huskies in goals en route to a fourth place finish at state.
