Remembering Michelle Fregoso
District 203 recently said goodbye to a beloved staff member. Warm, fun, and philanthropic – just some of the words friends used to describe Michelle Fregoso. As the Director of Communications for District 203, Michelle lent an air of authority and pride to a district that she loved. She made her mark in the community through her service with the Naperville Junior Woman’s Club, and played an active role on the board of Safety Town, as their PR Chairperson. She will be remembered with love by her many friends and family, husband Jose, and two daughters. Michelle died on May 19th. She was just 39 years old. The family has set up a GoFundMe for her children’s education at https://www.gofundme.com/michelle039s-children039s-education.
D204 Approves Teacher Raises
Last night, District 204 approved a new four-year teacher’s contract. The contract contains a 4.13% raise for the first year, with annual raises that hover around 3.5% in the following three. It also raises the starting salary of first-year teachers by $1,000, to a total of $44,770. Last Friday, 71 percent of the Indian Prairie Education Association, the negotiating body of the teachers, voted in favor of the new deal.
Congratulations to the 2018 graduating classes of Naperville North and Naperville Central! Both schools celebrated their commencement ceremonies last night, and despite rain throughout the morning, the weather held off for some fireworks. Well done, graduates!
Benet Lax Wins a Buzzer Beater
That morning and afternoon rainfall postponed all regional baseball and softball games yesterday, but by the time Benet Academy boys lacrosse met up with York, the weather had cleared up. The sectional quarterfinal match up showed that these teams were very evenly matched. The Redwings had the early advantage, leading by a goal after the first quarter through the midway point of the 2nd. The Dukes fought back, taking an eight to seven halftime lead. But the defense tightened up in the 3rd, as the Redwings retook the lead heading into the final quarter. With the game tied at ten in the final seconds, Ryan Burke scored the game winner to beat the buzzer as Benet won a thriller to advance to the sectional semi finals. The Redwings will play top seeded Glenbard West today at 4:30 p.m.
In other playoff action, Waubonsie Valley boys volleyball knocked off Bolingbrook in the regional quarterfinals. The Warriors won a tight first set, before cruising in the second set, advancing to the regional semis, 25-23, 25-18. Waubonsie will play Downers Grove North tonight at 5:30 p.m. Naperville North also moved on in the playoffs last night, defeating Proviso West in straight sets.
Benet Academy, Naperville Central, Metea Valley and Neuqua Valley all begin regional play tonight.
