Cop on a Rooftop
Coffee and donuts pair pretty perfectly with police officers and a good cause. Once again the Naperville Police Department was seen on the top of the Dunkin’ Donuts on Ogden Avenue this morning to help raise money for athletes of Special Olympics Illinois during the 16th annual Cop on a Rooftop. The statewide event was held at nearly 300 Dunkin’ Donuts locations this year, with the goal to raise more than $720,000. The NPD will also be participating in Special Olympics Illinois’ Law Enforcement Torch Run on June 10.
A lottery ticket worth $1.45 million was sold at a Naperville gas station. The winning Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick was sold yesterday at the Mobil station at the corner of Ogden Avenue and River Road. The winning numbers were 02-19-22-25-29 and will net the retailer $14,500. The winner will have one year to redeem their winnings at one of Illinois’ five lottery prize centers.
Civil War Days
Naper Settlement will once again transform into an 1863 Civil War encampment this weekend for the annual Civil War Days. Guests can meet famous historical figures like Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Tubman, or shop along ‘Sutler’s Row’ for traditional Civil War-era reproduction goods. The big battle begins at 2:30 on both Saturday and Sunday and tickets can be purchased at the gate.
Neuqua Wins Track and Field Sectional
The boys track and field sectionals were held yesterday and Waubonsie Valley and Neuqua Valley competed in the Plainfield South sectional. The Wildcats picked up several first place finishes, including Donovan Turner winning both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and Zach Kinne destroying the field to win the 3200 meters. Waubonsie Valley got a first place finish from senior Wes York in the 800 and qualified two throwers in the discus events in Zach Lyons and Montaj Singh. Neuqua Valley used its balanced team effort to win the sectional championship over Yorkville and Plainfield North. Waubonsie Valley finished in seventh.
