75th Street Road Construction
Construction begins this week on the resurfacing 75th Street between Route 59 and Olympus Drive in Naperville. DuPage County is removing the existing asphalt and repaving. Motorists should expect daily lane closures and use alternate routes if possible. All work will occur during the daytime hours. Construction is expected to be completed by late August.
Parking Garage Maintenance
And more in construction news, the City of Naperville began routine maintenance work on the Van Buren Parking Deck last night. The entire fifth floor and parts of the fourth floor will be inaccessible during the week for the duration of the project, but should open back up on Saturdays and Sundays. City contractors will work overnight for the first week, before switching to daytime work the week of May 21. The project is expected to take five weeks.
Preserve the Moment Photo Contest
The Forest Preserve District of Will County’s “Preserve the Moment” photo contest is underway. Photos must be taken in a Will County preserve between May 1 and December 31. There’s no contest theme this year, so contestants are free to get creative. Monthly winners will receive a $75 Visa gift card and the overall winner will receive a $500 Visa gift card.
It was a big weekend in local sports as the first two state tournaments of the spring were held on Friday and Saturday. Neuqua Valley freshman gymnast Michael Baren performed beyond his years, making the state finals in five of the six state events. The Wildcat tied for fifth on the pommel horse and the parallel bars, while his score of 9.45 on the vault was good for second place.
At the state badminton tournament, Naperville North and Fremd were in a battle for second place after Stevenson secured the state championship earlier in the day. The Huskies’ doubles team of Clara Duan and Taylor Zhou won their third place match, pushing North ahead by a half point to win the second place state trophy. Neuqua Valley finished fourth. The full highlights for both events can be found on NCTV17.com.
