The DuPage Valley Conference Badminton Tournament got underway last night with the double pairings facing off at Waubonsie Valley. Naperville Central’s number twos, Natassia O’Kulich and Isabelle Korpas battled a very tough Wheaton North team for third place. They pushed it into a third set but eventually walked away victorious. The big competitors in the night though, would be Naperville North. Their #1 duo of Clara Duan and Taylor Zhou defeated Metea Valley in the semi-finals and then went on to challenge Solu and Shonu Manoharan from Waubonsie Valley for the championship, which they won in straight sets. North would also take first in #2, #3, and #5 doubles. Mustangs Nitya Nagarajan and Yunwei Liang would battle for third place in one doubles against Neuqua’s Joyce Chen and Helen Zhao. This match would also go to three sets but Metea would smash their way to a win. The tournament will continue on Saturday at Waubonsie for the singles competition.
