Russell’s Cleaners Closing
It’s the end of an era in Naperville. Russell’s Cleaners on Jefferson Street announced over the weekend that they’ll be closing their doors after over 50 years in Naperville. The building will be torn down and rebuilt for future use.
Yesterday women took off in the second annual Naperville Women’s Half Marathon and 5k! Over 2,500 people participated in the race at North Central College. Marisa Hird of Naperville took first place in the half marathon with a time of 1:22:39, while Kelly McShea of Lisle took first place in the 5k. The race was presented by the Naperville Running Company with proceeds going to Little Friends and 360 Youth Services.
Naperville’s Earth Week
This weekend also kicked off the start of the inaugural Earth Week Naperville. To celebrate, the city unveiled their new pollination station at the municipal building, which attracts butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and native species. The pollination station was planted in partnership with the Naperville Garden Club and Conservation Foundation. The Naperville park district will also be hosting many Earth Week events and programs during the week like litter picking and planting. For more information, visit their website.
Boys Gymnastics Championship
Lake Park played host for the Dupage Valley Conference boys gymnastics championship. Naperville North and Naperville Central hoped to pull the upset over the Wheaton Co-op. Tahj Jacobs was the top Redhawk gymnast, finishing first in the vault with an 8.8, while Naperville Central finished fourth as a team. Naperville North had many strong performances including a 2nd place finish from Riyaaz Khan on the rings, helping the Huskies take 2nd on the night. Austin Tate of the Wheaton Co-op stole the show finishing first in the all around and helping Wheaton secure the DVC championship.
