The Carson’s Furniture Clearance Center here in Naperville will be closing, along with the Carson’s in Fox Valley Mall. Parent company Bon-Ton has declared bankruptcy and announced they will be closing down all the stores under their umbrella, which include Carson’s, Bergner’s and Boston Store. The 160-year-old company was operating more than 250 stores in 23 states. The closing date for our local stores has not yet been announced.
Cancer Center Renovations:
Last night Edward Hospital held an open house to highlight $2 million dollars in renovations and upgrades at the Edward Cancer Center. As part of a multi-phase expansion plan, the center now offers 34 infusion bays, 16 exam rooms, and a larger, brighter waiting area for patients. The improvements also include a Tribute to Hope wall, which allows donors to purchase and place a message of encouragement to those going through treatment. The renovations were in response to the growing demands for cancer services at Edward’s Naperville campus.
STEM Career Expo At Fermi:
The next generation of scientists and engineers gathered at Fermilab last night. The annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Career Expo drew high school students from all over the area looking to learn about careers in those fields. Displays throughout Wilson Hall featured attention-grabbing demonstrations like flaming rocks and robotic measuring arms. Along with five separate panel discussions, students were able to speak one-on-one with professionals working in STEM-related careers.
College Women’s Lacrosse:
Last night the North Central College Women’s Lacrosse team hosted the Elmhurst Bluejays in a battle on a nearly frozen field. The Cardinals continued their historic season by scoring the game’s first 16 goals, overpowering the Blue Jays en route to a 23 to 4 victory. NCC now stands at 13 and 1 on the season, tying the program record for wins. With a 3-0 record in the CCIW, North Central can wrap up a spot in the conference tournament with a win on Saturday at home against Dubuque. That game can be seen live at 4pm on NCTV17 and NCTV17.com.
