The Gordmans at 2639 Aurora Avenue in Naperville will be closing its doors for good. The Nebraska-based clothing and home décor chain declared bankruptcy in March, and though Stage Stores is acquiring at least 50 of the more than 100 stores owned by the chain, the Naperville location is not one of them. No official closing date has been set.
With safety concerns in mind, the Riverwalk will be getting a small addition near the Naperville Township building, to accommodate an expected increase in traffic with the opening of Water Street. Part of the Township building’s parking lot will be removed to make space for the extension, which will feature an accessible ramp, new landscaping, and a 20-foot tall automatic flagpole. The work is being privately funded by the Riverwalk Foundation and will be completed by the end of May.
Game Show Winner:
A Naperville native got the chance to “Come on down!” during her spring break. 21-year-old Alyssa Mazurek landed a spot as a contestant on The Price is Right during her break from St. Mary’s College. Though she lost her initial game, she had success at the big wheel and advanced to the Showcase Showdown, where a bid of $26,500 brought her within 300 dollars of the actual price of the prizes. That made her the big winner of a trip to Germany and a 2017 Ford Fiesta. Her episode aired April 5th.
Lacrosse Face Off:
Two of the area’s top girls lacrosse teams met up at Commissioner’s Park last night as Neuqua Valley hosted Naperville North. The Huskies got off to a fast start thanks to a goal from Payton Arnold, eventually building a 4-1 lead at halftime. In the 2nd half the Wildcats came roaring back, eventually tying the game at 8 behind goals from Caroline Perkins and Brenda Anderson. With only one minute left in the game, Payton Arnold found junior Anna Platou for the game winner for the Huskies. Naperville North ended a two game losing streak after the 10-8 victory.
