Bill Foster Speaks on Gun Violence

Last night Congressman Bill Foster hosted a gun violence protection panel at the Yellow Box Church. Foster was joined by Dr. Karen Sheehan who presented statistics on violent deaths in Illinois, Marsha Lee who discussed her experience as a mother of a gun violence victim, Rohan Chakrabarty, a student at Metea Valley, and Jacob Baron, a student at Naperville North. The audience included both pro-gun and anti-gun supporters who could submit questions to the panel. Some questions included thoughts on arming teachers, the second amendment, and AR-15 rifles.

District 204 Budget

At last night’s District 204 meeting, the Board of Education reviewed a draft budget for fiscal year 2019. Thanks to the new Evidence Based Funding Model, the $340 million budget features the first increase to revenue from the state in a decade – though that’s only if Illinois funds schools completely. For the current budget, the state is about $8.5 million behind on payments to 204. The board will vote to approve the tentative budget in May, and the final approval will come in June.

Pitbull to Play Ribfest 2018

Mr. Worldwide is coming to Ribfest. The Exchange Club of Naperville announced this morning that internationally recognized artist Pitbull will headline the concert on July 5th. Pitbull will join Melissa Etheridge, Jake Owen, and Steven Tyler as the final headlining artist on the Navistar Main Stage.

NCC Baseball Heats Up

After a slow start to the season, North Central College baseball caught fire last week, starting the conference season with a two game sweep of Wheaton and a three-game weekend sweep of Milikin. The Cardinals have won 6 games in a row, giving head coach Ed Mathey 300 wins in his North Central career. With two more wins, Coach Mathey will become the program’s all-time leader in coaching victories. We’d also like to congratulate longtime North Central College softball coach, Jim Kulawiak on his 800th career win last week. In 28 years at the helm, Coach Kulawiak has racked up over 80% of the program’s all-time victories.
