Naperville Now 03-29-17

Road Construction:

Construction starts April 3rd at the intersection of 95th Street and Plainfield-Naperville Road. The intersection will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction, to accommodate the construction of double left turn lanes on the north and south legs of the intersection, and new right turn lanes on the north and east legs of the intersection. Other improvements will include traffic signal updates, upgraded street lighting and widening of the bridge over Spring Brook. Work should be completed by mid-November.

Tax Increase:

The average homeowner in DuPage County can expect to see a 1.76 percent increase in their tax bill this year. That’s due to a boost of 6.7 percent in the value of land in DuPage. The increase will appear on installments due in June and September, and will vary depending on where you live in the county.

Fundraiser Fights Cancer:

Little Pop’s Pizzeria held an all day fundraiser yesterday to support Justin Wegner and Roman Niklos in their battles against cancer. Wegner is a 2015 Naperville Central graduate, who was diagnosed last summer with sarcoma soft cell cancer. Roman Niklos, the four-year-old son of Neuqua Valley football coach JR Niklos, was diagnosed with leukemia last June. Friends and family were able to meet up to spend time with both Justin and Roman, who were both recently moved into the maintenance stage of their treatments. Central Win:

After spending the weekend in Indiana, Naperville Central baseball opened its home portion of the schedule against Joliet Catholic. Trailing one nothing in the third, the Redhawks offense exploded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking a lead they’d never give up. However, the Hilltoppers would make things interesting late in the game. Joliet Catholic had the bases loaded in the last inning, down by just one, but Alec Nuckols would get the final strikeout to secure the win for Central. The Redhawks are now 3-0 on the season.
