President’s Day NAHS
As kids are off of school for President’s Day today, the Naperville Area Humane Society had a one-day camp that got them out of the house to create some crafts for canines. Kids ages 8 to 11 got to make octopus dog toys out of old t-shirts. They also learned about dogs and cats and the importance of spending time with our pets.
Boys Swimming & Girls Basketball
It was a record-breaking day at the Metea Valley boys swimming sectional on Saturday. Neuqua Valley senior Kyri Chen set a new pool record while winning the 50 freestyle, freshman teammate Connor Boyle won the 100 free for the Wildcats and NV junior Jack Hiss won the 200 free. Waubonsie Valley had multiple winners, led by Jared Simpson’s pool record setting win in the 200 individual medly. Fellow Warrior Brian Ellig won the 100 breaststroke and teammate Aayus Deshpande edged out Naperville North’s Horace Qiao to win the 100 fly. Metea Valley got a win from senior Michael Chan in the 100 back. The only individual win for Naperville Central came from diver Wyatt Weaver, but the Redhawks racked up the points with a high number of top 6 finishes. Central takes the sectional plaque for the sixth consecutive season.
And on Friday night, Naperville Central picked up another big win on the basketball court. The lady Redhawks survived a triple overtime thriller over crosstown rival Naperville North. Senior Mia Lakstigala hit the game winner with five seconds to play in the third overtime. Despite 29 points from freshman Greta Kampshroeder, the Huskies last second shot fell just short as Central wins its first regional since 2013 and will move on to play Lockport tomorrow night at Neuqua Valley.
