A Day Without Immigrants

Yesterday several Naperville businesses closed their doors in support of “A Day Without Immigrants.” Colonial Café on Gartner Road said that they closed in support of families, friends and team members. The Jalapeño Grille on Route 59 posted on social media that they would also be closed in support of the day, citing that they are an immigrant owned business.

204 Lunch Change

District 204 schools will see a change in the menu next year, as the school board approved a $5.4 million food service contract with the lowest bidder, Chicago-based company OrganicLife. Under the new provider, students can expect restaurant-quality food, prepared using organic ingredients.

J. Glenn Schneider

J. Glenn Schneider, former state representative and Naperville City Councilman died earlier this week. Schneider, who also taught in Aurora and at both Naperville Central and Naperville North, served as a democratic state representative from 1971 to 1982. He was later elected to city council in the mid-80’s and sat on the dais through the mid-90’s. Schneider was 81.

Local Playoff Action

Plenty of playoff action taking place in girls basketball and hockey last night. In the opening round of the Blackhawk Cup, despite scoring first, Naperville North lost to Benet Academy by the score of seven to one. The Redwings will play their 2nd round game on March 3.

The Benet girls basketball team had a similar level of success in the regional championship. The two time defending state champs brought home another regional plaque as they cruised to a 71-52 victory over Lemont.

Despite a lead at halftime, the season came to an end for the Naperville Central girls at the hands of Yorkville. The Redhawks could not withstand an 18-0 run by the Foxes in the third quarter, leading to the 68-45 loss. Yorkville will face Benet in the sectional semi finals on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
