Metra Fare Hike:

The new Metra hike kicked in for commuters today, with increases of up to 12.6 percent, depending on the zone. Those hopping the train from downtown Naperville to Chicago this morning paid $7.25 for a one-way ticket, $69.00 for a 10-ride pass, and $210.25 for a monthly pass. This is the fourth year in a row that Metra has boosted their fares – they expect the hike to bring in about $17 million.

Safer Naper: Identity Theft:

A new month means a new topic for the Naperville Police Department’s Safer Naper campaign. February’s focus is identity theft, and how to prevent it. The department says a Naperville resident’s identity is stolen about every 17 hours. Some tips to help protect yourself: only give out your social security number when absolutely necessary, pay attention to your billing cycles, and create complex passwords. You can learn more at one of the 2 identity theft presentations scheduled by the Naperville Police Department this month – see their website for details.

All State Hockey Teams Announced:

The high school All State hockey teams were recently released and the rosters for the boys and girls teams were packed with Naperville athletes.

On the boys side, Neuqua Valley senior Ben Granato is an All State forward for the 2nd consecutive season. The Wildcats begin play in the Blackhawk Cup later this month against New Trier White.

After being shutout from the All State list last season, Waubonsie has a pair of forwards on the list in senior Cade Kenyon and sophomore Zach Pearce. The Warriors hockey club will begin round robin play for the Illinois West Cup this weekend.

The Naper Valley Warriors girls team has four members named to the All State list. Goalie Samantha Steciak makes the list as a sophomore. A pair of underclassmen defenders, Lauren Hennessy and Lyndie Lobdell also made the cut. Senior Venice Rasoulis represents Naper Valley as a forward. Congratulations to all the selections on a fantastic season.
