Naperville Women on Time Magazine
Three Naperville women were recently featured on the cover of Time magazine. Lauren Underwood, Valerie Montgomery, and Anne Stava-Murray, who are all running for elected office in Illinois, were part of “The Avengers” cover. The issue highlighted the high number of female candidates running for election around the country. Underwood is running in a contested Democratic primary for the 14th U.S. House District, and Montgomery and Stava-Murray are unopposed in Democratic primaries for state representatives seats.
Naperville Education Ranked High
Naperville has been ranked the third most educated city in the U.S. That’s according to researchers from consumer advocate dot org, who based their results on data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 2016 release of five-year estimates. And Naperville Community School District 203 was named the number one best school district in America by The National Council for Home Safety and Security. The group analyzed school funding, student performance, dropout rate, and poverty rate.
District 203 Blended Courses
And more from District 203, last night teachers, students, and district officials gave the Board of Education an update on blended learning courses at the high school level. The courses, which combine both online and traditional in-classroom work, received a lot of positive feedback from both students and teachers. Students said the blended classes have been good preparation for college and teachers appreciated the new challenge of the different type of class and forming online lesson plans. District officials anticipate increases in blended course enrollment and hope to get more teachers involved.

The first state meets of the winter season will be held this weekend. Naperville will be well represented down in Bloomington in the competitive dance meet. Naperville Central earned a spot by finishing fourth in the Geneva sectional. Naperville North will also be heading back to state after finishing second. Neuqua Valley won the sectional championship as the Wildcats hope to get back on the podium after winning back-to-back state championships in 2015 and 2016. Best of luck to all our competitors this weekend!
