Naperville Now 01-22-18

14-Year-Old Approached:

Naperville police say this morning a 14-year old girl was approached twice by a man in a blue 4-door car offering her a ride. The incident took place on Rockport Lane between Stonewater Drive and Kilburne Lane. The man is described to be white, in his late 20s or early 30s. A similar event took place in December just a few blocks away at the Naperville Crossing mall. Parents are reminded to talk to their kids about never accepting a ride from a stranger. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the police.

Legislative Round Table:

On Saturday morning, the Naperville Area Homeowner’s Confederation brought several state legislators to town for a round table discussion. The group was made up of state senators Linda Holmes, Michael Connelly, and John Curran, and state representatives Grant Wehrli, Stephanie Kifowit, and David Olsen. They answered prepared questions about property taxes and Illinois’ population drop, then took questions straight from the audience. Some common themes discussed were the desire for policy-over-party decisions and the need to bring economic growth to the state.

Sparrow Coffee Opens:

This weekend Sparrow Coffee Roastery held its invitation-only opening party at its new location on Water Street in downtown Naperville. This is the first cafe for the popular Chicago roastery. Sparrow Coffee usually distributes its blends, which are custom-made, to restaurants such as DeEtta’s Bakery. The cafe is now open to the public.

Boys Bowling Sectional:

The boys bowling sectional was held in Chicago on Saturday with four of our local bowlers participating. Naperville Central junior Zak Knusel finished his season with a 971 over the six games in the first season of competition for the Redhawks. Naperville North’s Adam Rodriguez represented his team well with a 1030, a proud end to his Huskies career. Metea Valley’s Chris Mickolayck averaged an impressive 199 per game and showed he’ll be a strong contender next season. Ian Ridgway came in with a 1358, the 2nd best individual score of the day, qualifying the Mustang for state for the first time ever. Lake Park won the sectional championship thanks to a perfect 300 in the 4th game from freshman Jason Gutkowski. The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday in O’Fallon.
