New Recommendations for SECA:

Last night, the SECA Commission met to come up with new recommendations for the 2018 grants. That’s after city council chose to fully fund city services for both Ribfest and the Last Fling, leaving a $42,000 deficit in the SECA grant budget that the commission wanted to redistribute.

Also discussed at the meeting were some changes that could be made to the SECA program, such as an increase to the $1.9 million cap currently on the fund. The commission would also like to move Ribfest and the Last Fling off their agenda, if the city council plans to fully fund their requests each year.

RV Parking in Driveways?

The Naperville City Council is considering allowing recreational vehicle parking on driveways in town. At its most recent meeting, council heard from Chris Hagenbaumer, who wants to keep his ski boat on his driveway between lake weekends. Current regulations prohibit recreational vehicles and trailers from being parked in driveways for more than 48 hours at a time or more than 14 days in a month. Council directed the city attorney to look into whether a variance or permit process can be created.

Therapy Dogs Needed:

Edward Elmhurst Health is looking for more dogs for its Animal-Assisted Therapy programs. In order to qualify dogs must be able to perform required commands without treats, be able to walk loosely on a leash without pulling, and get along with other dogs. Dogs that meet these requirements will have to go through temperament testing in March. You can find more information on

New Cheer Champs:

There is a new champion in the DuPage Valley Conference in Varsity Cheerleading. Metea Valley edged out Neuqua Valley for the title, the first DVC plaque for the Mustangs co-ed team. Cheerleading sectionals will be held on Saturday, January 27th, with Metea competing at the Andrew Sectional. Neuqua Valley, Naperville North, Naperville Central and Waubonsie Valley will compete at the Belvidere North sectional.
