Southwest Community Park

In its first meeting of the new year, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners voted to name the pavilion proposed for Southwest Community Park ‘Wolf’s Crossing Pavilion’. A report from the board’s Vice President Rich Janor indicated the park itself could take on the Wolf family name as well. The area was originally settled by the Wolf family in the 1840s.

Lazy Dog Restaurant

A new restaurant could be coming to Route 59 and your dogs would be invited too! Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar will appear before Naperville City Council on Tuesday to request a change to the site’s plan to allow a building footprint larger than the 5,000-square-foot maximum. The chain offers a menu made from scratch for diners and would have plenty of outdoor seating space, where the dogs can also enjoy their own menu of grilled hamburger, grilled chicken and brown rice. The restaurant would replace the American Mattress building currently occupying the site.

Lauren Underwood Swearing In

Illinois 14th Congressional District representative Lauren Underwood was sworn into her position in the 116th U.S. Congress earlier this year. To commemorate the occasion, a ceremony will be held in the district she represents at Neuqua Valley High School. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Neuqua Auditorium.

North Alum Drafted by Red Stars

The National Women’s Soccer League held its annual draft in Chicago yesterday and it was certainly a memorable for one former Naperville athlete. 2015 Naperville North graduate, Kayla Sharples was selected by the Chicago Red Stars with the eighth pick of the third round. Sharples was a key member of the Huskies 2012 state champion girls soccer team before playing club soccer exclusively the next three years. She played soccer collegiately as a defender at Northwestern University. A two-sport athlete in high school, Sharples was also one of the best basketball players in the state during her time at Naperville North. The Red Stars also have Naperville Central alum Casey Short and Waubonsie Valley grad Vanessa DiBernardo on the roster.
