Wind Chill Advisory:
It’s been a cold start to the New Year – and it’s about to get worse. Our area is under a wind chill advisory from 10 p.m. tonight through noon tomorrow. The National Weather Service is predicting wind chills from 20 to 25 degrees below zero, which can cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Temperatures are expected to stay below 20 until Sunday.
Township Consolidation Revisited?:
There’s talk of revisiting the plan to consolidate the Naperville and Lisle townships highway departments. Voters approved a referendum question on the matter last April, but now Naperville Township officials are looking into whether their road district can remain independent. The Naperville Township board held a special meeting at the end of December, when they considered adding a question on the March ballot about the matter, but they decided to table the issue until they can review state law to see if there is in fact a way to reverse the referendum.
Baby New Year:
It was a happy New Year for the La Due family of Aurora, whose son Evan William was the first baby of 2018 born at Edward Hospital. He was born at 12:11 a.m., and weighed 6 pounds and 12 ounces, measuring 19 inches long. Congratulations to his parents, Jessi and Cody!
Record Breaking Sorenson:
It was a historic weekend for North Central College men’s basketball and center Alex Sorenson. The senior broke a 62-year school record on Saturday by scoring 54 points in the Cardinals 117 to 74 win over Robert Morris. Sorenson only missed four shots all night, shooting an incredible 25 of 29 from the field, which is also a new school record. The CCIW player of the week grabbed 14 rebounds for good measure as the Cardinals won their fourth game in a row.
