A new social networking site is catching on in Naperville. It’s much like Facebook, only this site is attracting both moms and the attention of local businesses. New stay-at-home mom Kelli Thompson was eager to connect with other moms. For her, that connection became something more than just your typical weekly play dates.
“I’ve only been here for two years, and I knew this was a huge transition in my life,” said Thompson. “I thought, you know, I need to get connected to meet other people that are in the same boat as I am, and figured there had to be a lot of other people who feel the same way I do,” said Thompson.
Unlike many new moms who join playgroups or moms groups, Thompson took that traditional step to the next level and created an online social community for local moms to connect. “That’s where I came up with the Naperville Moms Network. It’s kinda like a Facebook for moms, “ said Thompson.
The online network also hosts family fun activities, playgroups, workshops, seminars and mom’s socials.
Liz Arce is one of the hundreds of members of the Naperville Moms Network. “I have met so many great people already. I’m just having a great time, “ said Arce.
It may be fun and useful to its members, but mom-based networks like this one are catching the eye of many local businesses that see a real value in the network and to their bottom line.
Small business owner Dr. Cathy Subber is a member of the Naperville Moms Network. Dr. Subber says the network has been good for her business. Thompson doesn’t doubt that. “I think this is something that is going to continue to grow and continue to have more of a presence here and add value to women’s lives here locally,” said Thompson.
Thompson hopes the network will fulfill a big need in the community and the numbers of members show just that. The network has already attracted more than 800 members since its launch last year. You can visit the network at www.napervillemomsnetwork.com.
