Two Naperville mothers have been arrested for allegedly trying to stop the installation of digital Smart Meters at their home.
Kim Bendis, mother of three and president of Naperville Smart Meter Awareness, a group that’s protested the smart meters over the last year, was one of those taken into custody. The other woman was Jen Stahl, also a mother of three.
Naperville Smart Meter Awareness Sent us an e-mail statement, saying:
“This is an extraordinary tragedy as there is still a pending federal lawsuit and the issue of smart meters has not been decided in Naperville. This demonstrates the lengths to which the city officials have been willing to go to force residents into compliance.”
The group has taken the city of Naperville to court in an attempt to stop the installation, but more than 99% of the roughly 54,000 smart meters are already installed.
The new meters will more accurately and easily monitor energy usage for homes and commercial buildings but some residents opposed them because of concerns regarding health, privacy, and security.
