Ask Rick Motta about any hairstyle and he has an opinion:
“Look in magazines and you see all the movie stars and it looks like they just got out of bed, you know?” said Motta, Owner of Rick Motta’s Barbershop.
And he should, as hair is kind of his thing. But not just any cut,
he specializes in old time barbershop cuts, something he’s been doing here at his shop in Naperville since 1961.
“We offer a regular hair cut, we offer the new modern hair cuts. We put lather on and the back of the neck and we shave that all up and we give a massage,” said Motta.
It may not be the quickest way to a trim, but for his customers it’s more than just a hair cut. It’s time to sit back, relax and treat yourself to a new look along with some welcome conversation.
“The details, the eyebrows, the ears, everything. When you’re a little older and maybe even younger unbeknownst to you there are all kinds of little hairy particles sticking out all over that you may be not be conscious of, but when you go to a barbershop they take care of all that. The conversations, the peoples inquisitiveness with the customer, learning all sorts of info and tidbits, that’s a good part of the whole experience of a barbershop,” said Joseph Rucys, a customer at Rick Motta’s Barbershop.
But it’s not just the customers reaping the benefits of this business. Rick Motta believes it’s his saving grace.
“I believe this work and these people are keeping me alive. If you totally recline and don’t do anything and sit in a recliner all the time, your brain starts to go and your body. I love it, I love talking to people and enjoying them,” said Motta.
Trimming back the years, one cut at a time.
