Naperville Man Charged With Arson

71-year-old James Povolo turned himself into police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Officials believe him to be the person responsible for setting fire to Huber’s tent at the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Naper Boulevard.

Police estimate that Povolo approached the location around 2 p.m. on July 18 and set fire to the tent, resulting in total destruction of the tent and its contents.

“He saw the tent, and admittedly set fire to it, which is very dangerous considering how close to residences that is and a gas station, setting a fire of this nature in this area could have been a lot more disastrous had it spread,” said Commander Jason Arres, with the Naperville Police Department.

Povolo has been charged with one count of arson, a class two felony.

He is currently out on bond and will appear in court on August 30th.
