Naperville Local at Olympics

Kris Hartner, owner of the Naperville Running Company not only saw Usain Bolt win the 100 meter dash, he also saw Olympians from other sports playing at the top of their game during his recent trip to Rio.

“If I got to pick I probably would have picked Track and Field the whole time,” said Hartner, “But I’ll tell you, probably some of the most fun things we were at were the non-track events: Rugby Sevens, we saw Fiji beat Great Britain in the finals and they destroyed them.”

The trip was organized by shoe manufacturer Asics as a thank you to Kris for being a business partner.

“One of the nice benefits of the business that I’m in is that a lot of the vendors that I work with have athletes and sponsor teams and some federations in the Olympics,” said Hartner. “Asics happens to be one of those and about six months ago they gave us the invite. My son and I got to go and they planned the whole thing for us.”

In addition to seeing the sports, Kris and his son also had the opportunity to play some, taking a swing at badminton and ping pong. A trip to Christ the Redeemer at sunrise and some of the most stunning vistas in the world capped off what was certainly the trip of a lifetime.

“We had a great time and I think it’s one of those things you look back at and you just can’t, you never forget that,” Hartner said.
