Josh Stumpenhorst recently received the 2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year award from the State Board of Education. He’s been teaching Language Arts and Social Sciences at Lincoln Junior High School since 2003.
Stumpenhorst was recognized for his creative use of technology in the classroom.
“What works for one kid may not work for another and that’s ok because we have all these options,” said Stumpenhorst. “So technology is a huge piece of that because the more resources you have, the more variety you can offer a kid.”
He puts in quite a bit of time outside of class as well as Athletic Director, track coach, and computer club advisor. He even maintains his own blog called “Stump the Teacher.”
As a part of the award, Stumpenhorst will receive a lifetime tuition waiver to state universities. He’ll also represent Illinois at the National Teacher of the Year Program.
