250 marketing students from Metea, Neuqua, and Waubonsee Valley High School attended a themed kick off presentation at the AMC Theatre.
The mission, should they accept, is a semester long assignment to determine what business could occupy the vacant spot at Naperville Crossings.
Mission 60564 challenges each student team to develop a marketing plan to attract businesses to the strip mall. They will conduct market research, learn about city procedures and present their retail matchup.
Schools will have a real estate broker and a city staff member to guide them and answer any questions.
“We’re hoping that they’re going to be able to put this on their resumes going forward and going into college that they can take this experience with them,” said Kamala Martinez, Board Director for Indian Prairie Education Foundation. “And how cool for the winning team, whoever wins, if their idea actually comes to fruition they can say they forever put their stamp within Naperville.”
Final drafts are due in December, and the top teams from each school will be announced in January.
Those teams will then present their marketing plans on February 24 to the Naperville Development Partnership, City Council, Residents Task Force, and Business Community.
The winner will be announced during the city council meeting on March 3 and student winners may go on to represent Naperville at an annual retail tradeshow in Chicago.
