While many were filling out their brackets for March Madness, others branched out into a different tournament.
The Morton Arboretum hosted their first ever “Mulch Madness” tournament of trees, that showcased eight distinctive varieties for people to vote for.
“We wanted to give people more of an opportunity to learn more about the trees, interesting facts about them, kind of when their stand out time of year is, if they have a nice autumn color or if they flower beautifully in the spring and just a way for people to get to know different types of trees,” said Patti MacMillan, Public Relations Specialist for The Morton Arboretum.
Now that the evergreen eight is officially over, the winning trees moving on to the fragrant four are the Ginkgo, Redbud, Bur Oak, and River Birch.
Two trees will go limb-to-limb for a final face-off vote that goes until April 12.
Mulch madness is another way to get people ready for the Arboretum’s signature holiday, Arbor Day on April 24.
Voting is unlimited so head over to mortonarb.org/mulchmadness to vote for your winning tree.
