Those who serve in the armed forces do their part to make life a little easier for citizens, and one local not-for-profit is doing the same for them. Naperville Responds for our Veterans is an organization that started more than two years ago and its their mission to provide construction related needs to any veterans in the community.
They recently teamed up with a construction company to build a ramp for Gus Voss, a disabled World War II vet who served in four different European countries under General Patton.
“I can’t walk and I can’t drive so this will make me very independent. Big, big, big help and a big plus for me,” said Voss.
“The fact of the matter is that we are learning more and more each day that there are a lot of veterans in need,” said Pat Bowler, president of Naperville Responds for our Veterans. As some of our boys come home especially those with disabilities we are here to help them if it’s a construction related problem we would like to be involved.”
The ramp took about five hours to build with six people lending a hand. Their next goal is to build a house for a veteran within the next year. Naperville Responds for our Veterans is always accepting donations and looking for new members at nrfov.org.
