This summer’s unusual weather is causing yet another problem: allergies. Over the past few days the Chicago area’s mold count has reached an all time high, causing allergy symptoms.
“I think it’s a little worse this year,” said Elias Shaheen, M.D., Edward Medical Group. “I think people are mistaking cold symptoms with allergy symptoms. People are coming in saying they have upper respiratory symptoms but really it’s allergy symptoms.”
The hot and humid conditions have left many plants to rot, creating the perfect place to grow mold.
Doctors recommend showering regularly, using nasal spray and remaining indoors to fight the symptoms. However, even inside you’re not immune to allergens.
Over at Dutchman Heating and Cooling, they have a variety of products to keep your air clean in the house.
“There’s not one solution. Every home is different so you really need to be paying attention to is what’s best for you and your family,” said Mike Bakker, Owner, Dutchman Heating and Cooling. “Whether it’s UV lights, air cleaners, fresh air exchange, media filters.”
Bakker also recommends making sure you have plenty of air exchange in order to maintain a healthy environment.
