At the latest City Council meeting, the winner was announced for the “Mission 60564” project, an assignment given across District 204 high schools, that challenged about 270 marketing students to come up with a plan to fill the vacant businesses at Naperville Crossings.
After much research, planning and guidance from city staff and real estate brokers, their plans were finalized.
Coming in first place were five girls from Neuqua Valley High School.
“It means a lot, we’ve put in so much hard work into this, I mean we’ve been working on it since September I believe, so it’s actually been our whole semester so it’s really exciting that all of our work finally paid off,” said Quincy Vandermeulen, Mission 60564 Winning Teammate.
Vandermeulen and her team want to fill the area with businesses that tend to a healthier lifestyle and give back to the community, like a vegan restaurant and an indoor rock climbing facility.
The group will now begin working with City Council members to make their plans a reality.
The final step will be for the group to present their plans to a retail broker panel in April.
