Two District 203 students rode to their last day of school in an unusual way.
Elmwood Elementary first grader AJ and his friend Bodhi were surprised by the chance to ditch the school bus and ride to school in a fire truck.
“I didn’t even know it was a ride,” said Bodhi.
“It was the biggest surprise of my life,” added AJ.
AJ’s parents won the unique experience for the boys in an online auction benefiting Bike Bald, a local non-profit that is dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer.
The ride also had a deeper meaning because Bodhi himself is battling cancer.
“We just want to continue to put smiles on kids’ faces,” said Debbie Mossburg, Founder of Bike Bald.
AJ and Bodhhi were greeted in front of Elmwood by Mrs. Park’s enthusiastic first grade class.
Bike Bald owns the truck, named Neptune. It responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11 and last month, was donated to the organization to help them fundraise.
