Governor Pat Quinn recently visited Naperville and had a big surprise in store.
He declared October 27 as Mayor A. George Pradel Day in the state of Illinois.
The governor recognized Pradel’s major accomplishments throughout his 20 year term, from his work with the police department to his commitment to public safety.
The announcement came as quite a surprise to the mayor.
“They said here’s the speech and you’ll introduce the governor and I said this is awesome because 59 is coming along so great and we want to say thank you before it gets completed,” said Mayor A. George Pradel. “And here we are, and then they pull the surprise, the governor making this a day, so I’m totally thankful.”
Quinn was in town updating residents and motorists about the Route 59 Improvement Project and the completion of the first phase.
“We have lots of work to do on Route 59 , we’re going to widen it, three lanes each way, we had to work on important things like the walls along the road. I took some time to do that, not only the noise abatement walls, but plus containing walls that had to be constructed, so that allows us now to work on the road, its already begun, over the next little bit of time, making significant progress,” said Governor Pat Quinn.
The Route 59 project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
