The proposed district maps are ready for council vote.
In November 2010 Naperville voted to change the way we vote for city councilmen. With five members elected from districts and three at large plus the mayor.
City staff drew up a map outlining the five possible districts taking into consideration neighborhoods, population and geographic boundaries.
They then shared the map with residents and after a series of open houses they are ready to present their findings.
“We’ve only received two suggestions for changes to the map and they both relate to the boundary between district two and three,” said Amy Emery, Assistant to the City Manager. “So taken as a whole we really don’t have an extreme number of changes that we’re moving forward with.”
The first change would transfer nearly 300 residents from district three to district two, which staff says will have little effect. The other would move significantly more, which they suggest will shift the balance between the districts.
The findings will be presented to council in August. The districts will be implemented for the 2015 election.
