Maggie Speaks is a high-profile cover band that has fans all over the world after playing in countries like Australia, Spain and Turkey; but having the opportunity to perform in Naperville means a lot more to the band’s founder.
“It’s really exciting to be playing at The Last Fling because Naperville is where I call home. My kids go to different schools; I’ve got one in elementary, one in middle school and two in high school and it’s been great becoming part of the community,” said the band’s founder, David Calzaretta. “So it’s really kind of a neat feeling to know that my kids can bring their friends and their parents out and my neighbors can all come place locally to see us play.”
Maggie Speaks performs about 160 times a year at bars, weddings and concert halls and has shared the stage with the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire and Jay Leno over their 16 years as a group.
“Maggie Speaks started in 1998, I answered an ad in the Illinois Entertainer Magazine for somebody looking for a singing base player and I went and played with these guys and we had a good time so we decided to start a band together,” said Calzaretta.
The band promises a packed dance floor and an infectious energy during their show as they play covers of everything from “RESPECT” to “Tiny Dancer” and “Love Song”.
“The great thing about being in Maggie Speaks is that we have no musical boundaries,” said Calzaretta. “I always joke that we play everything from the Jackson 5 to Maroon 5. It’s really fun to mix those things up and mash them up and just deliver some surprising moments to people in the audience that don’t know what to expect from us.”
Catch Maggie Speaks’ performance at Naperville’s Last Fling on Friday, August 29 or find their full schedule of shows at MaggieSpeaks.com.
