Every year firearms and canons blanket Naper Settlement in smoke during Civil War Days. About 300 volunteers bring out their artillery to reproduce a great battle between the North and the South.
While spectators got a glimpse into the violent war, for one couple it was the perfect time to celebrate their love. Norman and Gina Camp, both re-enactors at the settlement, tied the knot at Civil War Days ten years ago and thought this year they would renew their vows.
“It’s just a neat thing to do,” said Norman. “It regenerates the happiness that we felt ten years ago when we actually had our wedding here.”
“All my family, everybody that stood up at my wedding, all my girls are here and it’s memorable,” said Gina. “It’s like a fairytale wedding.”
The couple first met through a personal ad in the Daily Herald and soon started dating. Norman immediately got Gina into re-enacting and now she says she loves participating with her husband.
