Eight local celebs hope to twirl their way to the top to win this year’s Dancing With The Celebrities.
After weeks of rehearsal, the stars are almost ready to show Naperville what they’ve got.
Eight local celebrities are spending time on the dance floor with some of Naperville’s most talented dancers, all for a good cause.
The Third Annual Dancing With The Celebrities will benefit Naperville’s Community Career Center, an organization that helps job seekers find employers.
The event not only raises money and awareness, but also friendly competition.
“I know a dance studio has won it two years in a row, so we are going to take them down in the nicest way possible,” said Jaana Lillegmai, owner of My Dance Hub in Naperville.
The dance couples were paired up randomly with instructors from four local studios, but the choice of music and the style of dance was all theirs.
Attorney Fred Spitzzeri is ready to waltz his way across the floor. “We’re doing an old Italian classic, that’s amore.”
The dancers say that rehearsing is a great work-out, but it’s not just physical. Even for Naperville fitness guru, Nicki Anderson. “You really have to pay attention to what you’re doing, but not so much that you overthink it, and then it’s not pretty,” said the Naperville Sun columnist.
Anderson’s instructor, Mateo Catalan adds, “It’s paralysis over analysis.”
Head Chef, Terrell Cole, from Sullivan’s Steak house is in it to win it, fitting in extra rehearsal time while he cooks on the line at work.
“It’s good publicity for the restaurant and the new studio to Naperville, either way around it’s a win-win, and it will be a win-win-win once I win,” said Cole.
Dancer, Kathy Birkett, doubles as Superintendent for Naperville’s District 204. She hopes for the top spot, but says, she is in it for more than the competition. “Honestly it’s not about the winning, I know people say that, but it’s about having some fun and raising money for an unbelievable cause.”
The contestants aren’t unveiling all of their tricks just yet, but they did give a sneak peak of what’s to come.
These four couples will join celebrities Margi Schiemann, Denise Provenzano, Joe Massicotte, and Mark Peek along with their dance partners at Meson Sabika for the competition.
Birkett said, “I want to wish everyone well. It’s for a great cause and the money goes to a good place.”
“We’re looking forward to performing to a packed house, so let’s see what we can do,” added Spitzzeri.
Coming up next week, the remaining four contestants squeeze in their last rehearsals before the competition on September 12th.
Tickets for the event are sold out, but viewers can catch all of the action here on NCTV17…visit our website for air times.
