This November, a month without shaving is helping change the face of men’s health.
At Players Indoor Sports Center, dozens of men came out to an initial shave party, shaving their faces, for moustaches in the making.
Movember is an annual month-long event where men let their facial hair grow into full beards before ‘shaving the date’ for the first of December when they will be clipping their beards into moustaches, all for a good cause.
The Movember Foundation charity raises awareness and funds for men’s health issues. Here in Naperville, proceeds will benefit prostate and testicular cancer research.
Naperville Resident, David Wang, has been personally been touched by cancer. His father died of colon cancer and his son went through five years of chemotherapy for leukemia, but is now in remission. “ I think it creates awareness, I think it furthers technology it advances the treatment, so anything we can do to bring attention to cancer research I think is a benefit for all,” said Wang.
The association started Movember in 2004 and has since raised more than $170 million worldwide.
