As the end of summer nears, a local family celebrated the return of a local veteran with their entire neighborhood.
Operation Welcome You Home, an organization that plans homecomings for local servicemen and women, helped U.S. Army Spc. Andrew Ravelo celebrate his month-long leave back home in Aurora.
The group surprised him, and even gave him a motorcycle ride around his subdivision.
Dozens came to support Andrew, including his parents, Christine and Walt, and his younger brother Owen.
Ravelo returned home after serving two tours of duty, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan as a Combat Medic.
“He decided to dedicate his life to serving the country, and not only that, but to also help people and make sure they get home safe. I am very, very proud of him,” said Walt Ravelo, Andrew’s father.
Within the next year and a half, Andrew Ravelo plans on leaving the military, to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor.
