Anchor of Naperville News 17, Natalie Vitale stepped behind the bar at Aurelio’s of Naperville recently to test her skills serving up drinks.
It was all part of the annual “Celebrity Bartending” fundraiser event for Loaves and Fishes Community Services. The outing aims to use a night of fun to raise money for those in need of food in the western suburbs.
“We’re all about food, and think that Aurelio’s has great food, so it’s a fun place to bring people out, it’s a Wednesday night, most people probably don’t have plans so this is a chance to come out, hang out with your family and celebrate the good work that’s being done before the holidays come,” said Megan Selck, President & CEO of Loaves and Fishes Community Services.
Other local celebrities came from BMO Harris Bank, the Naperville Jaycees Last Fling and Top Golf.
The event usually helps raise a few thousand dollars for the cause- but if you weren’t able to attend, there are still ways you can help. The not-for-profit just kicked off their holiday campaign to provide special holiday meals for families, and invite the community to chip in.
“It’s great for families to make that kind of contribution, and while their family is sitting down to a nice dinner, they can think of another family who’s getting to do that because of their generosity,” said Selck.
A cash donation of $30 to $35 can cover the meal for a family of eight – or, you can drop off actual items found in a holiday dinner.
Contributions of other sorts are also welcome – everything from diapers to birthday bags can make a difference for those in need.
“While food is our core, we really want people to be able to one stop shop with us and get everything they might need that they would at their regular grocery store,” said Selck.
Toilet paper and paper towels are just a couple of items the center could currently use.
