Senior dogs who come through the doors of Naperville Area Humane Society are getting some extra care.
The founders of Lizzy’s Fund, a resource for older dogs, are offering a 100% matching gift opportunity for any donation amount made from now until May 31.
These donations are used to provide veterinary care, grooming and adoption fees for senior dogs at the Naperville Area Humane Society.
“We just want people to realize that senior dogs can enrich your lives in ways that you can’t imagine. Senior dogs have established patterns and established behaviors, so when you come into a shelter and you look at a senior dog you know what you’re getting,” said Bernie Slupik, Founder of Lizzy’s Fund.
The fund was made in memory of Lizzy, a long-haired Chihuahua who had severe orthopedic issues by the age of nine, so much so that her owners were told they should put her down. Instead, her family treated her with alternative medicine, giving her an extra seven years of life, before she died in 2012.
Lizzy’s fund has raised just over $29,000, helping about 65 senior dogs. You can head over to napervilleareahumanesociety.org for more info on how to donate.
