The number of late night liquor licenses will now increase from 18 to 19.
City Council recently voted on an ordinace that would raise the number for a new pub, Empire at Ballydoyle, in the old Rosebud building.
The final vote was eight to one. The only no vote coming from Mayor Pradel who is also the Liquor Commissioner.
The Mayor cited the already strained police force as his reason.
“Is there some other way we can establish this,” asked Mayor Pradel. “First we need to think about how we’re going to enforce the rules and take the added pressure off the police department.”
The other councilmembers were concerned with the possibility of underage drinking, but once the owner cleared up the rules the council was on board.
“I’m glad he came up and clarified how the bracelets will work, because I thought anyone underage could come in,” said Coucnilman Hinterlong. “Now that they have to be brought in with their parents I can see they are really trying to make it a family establishment.”
Ballydoyle’s has locations in Downers Grove, Bloomingdale, and Aurora. They hope to open their new location by December.
