A few weeks ago we first brought you the story of Kate Schultz, a Naperville woman using her birthday to give gifts to children in need.
We caught back up with Schultz today, as she dropped off 65 birthday bags at Loaves & Fishes Community Services on her birthday on behalf of Let Them Eat Cake.
The 65 kits were double her goal of 32 bags in honor of her 32nd birthday.
Schultz collected over $2,000 in both party supplies and monetary donations through Facebook and a GoFundMe page to help create the bags equipped with essentials for the perfect birthday party.
“To see them in person just overwhelmed us,” said Jody Bender, Director of Community Engagement at Loaves & Fishes. “The fact that 65 kids are going to have phenomenal birthdays because that’s the way Kate is celebrating her birthday is heart warming. And we had no birthday bags at all on the shelf before Kate came today, which is huge for us. “
“People were just so generous throughout. And it feel so good to know that the birthday shelves that were once empty are now full,” said Schultz. “Now people have a wide variety to choose from and hopefully 65 kids will have a dream birthday this year.”
The Let Them Eat Cake program was also to honor Schultz’s mother who passed away seven years ago. Kate is already planning for a donation of at least 33 birthday bags next July.
