Legislative Lunch – Minimum Wage

The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their monthly Legislative Lunch.

Attendees gathered at the Sheraton Lisle Hotel for a meeting to discuss if the minimum wage should be raised from its current rate of $8.25 an hour.

Professionals from finance, education, government and small business served as panelists, sharing their opinions on the complex issue.

“I feel very strongly that we do need higher wages in this country, and raising the minimum wage is one of the ways to get there,” said Ron Baiman, Assistant Professor of Graduate Business Administration at Benedictine University.

“What are we doing systemically to address the opportunity out there. Should a minimum wage job now become an end point. Essentially if it’s a wage discussion, that’s what the discussion turns in to,” said Adam Russon LCSW, Chairman & CEO of Edgewood Clinical Services.

The Chamber’s Legislative Committee is non-partisan, so the meeting was only meant to create discussion.
