Legislative Lunch – Congressional Candidates

Nick Stella, Tonia Khouri and Herman White have each thrown their hat into the ring, hoping to be the Republican that will face off against current Congressman Bill Foster in the general election on November 8th.

At the Chamber’s Legislative Lunch, the candidates had the opportunity to share their views on issues like the Marketplace Fairness Act, higher education funding and tax reform.

DuPage County Board member and small business owner Tonia Khouri started the conversation, explaining how she would enact tax reform if elected.

“One of the first things I would do is look through the tax code line-by-line and cut out all of the crazy taxes, overburdening taxes that are in there. But I think it needs to be a long process and real leaders need to do it,” said Khouri.

Herman White, a scientist who has been with Fermilab for over 41 years, hopes to restore balance.

“In fact, I have as part of my campaign, get back to basics, and the basics really are straight forward. And that is we should match our taxes and our revenue with our expenditures,” said White.

And cardiologist Nick Stella wants to explore a new method of taxation.

“Those are two of the options we need to look into, possibly a flat tax, or a fair tax in order to bring some relief to the hardworking men and women of this country and to stop penalizing them for being successful,” said Stella.

All three will be on the ballot for the 11th Congressional District during the Illinois primary election on March 15th.
