With prom just around the corner, students at Metea Valley High School got an early lesson about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Seniors packed the gym to hear from Leeslyee Huerta, who was struck by a drunk driver her senior year of high school.
Her fiancé, Jonathan, was also part of the presentation and talked about how one drunk driving incident affects more than just the person who’s injured.
Leslie is paralyzed from the accident and still suffers from pain.
Students then moved outdoors where they saw a DUI accident simulation put on by the Aurora Police and Fire Departments along with the Kane County Coroner.
Students watched as the driver failed his sobriety test and victims were placed in body bags.
The presentation aims to illustrate the effects of one bad decision, with the hopes that students will make the right choice on prom night and in life.
