Leap Day Baby Born in Naperville

Baby Helen was one of eight babies born at Edward Hospital on Leap Day this year- meaning she’ll only technically celebrate one birthday every four years.

The odds of being born on February 29 are pretty rare, about one in 1,461. But her mom thinks that will make her daughter’s birthday even greater.

“I think it just made it all that more special ‘cause it’s not a real day, well it is a real day, but it only happens every four years and then with your first baby, you can’t really ask for anything more special than that,” said Hillary Graf, Helen’s Mom.

By the time Helen is 80 years old, she’ll have had 20 “real” birthdays..but mom says they’ll make time every year to celebrate.

If we didn’t have a leap day every four years, after 100 years the calendar would be off by about 24 days.
