A once laid off police officer will soon be back on the streets. Naperville City Council voted to rehire Kory McLaughlin at their most recent meeting.
He was one of the six officers laid off last November in order to balance the city’s budget.
The layoffs sparked controversy and even protest when the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police found the drastic job cuts unfair.
The group filed an unfair labor lawsuit to try to get the officers their jobs back. The lawsuit has yet to be settled, but all of the officers have been rehired by the city of Naperville.
