A new initiative in DuPage County could help some first time offenders maintain a clean record.
Non-violent, first time offenders charged with minor crimes will be given the option to enroll in the military, rather than having a conviction entered permanently on their record.
Once a month, recruiters from the Navy, Army, and Marines will be available at the DuPage County Courthouse to meet with potential participants and pre screen them for eligibility.
Officials hope this initiative will cut down on crime in the area.
