The Neuqua Valley Marching Wildcats sent Kathy Birkett off in style as she prepares to retire from the District 204 in June.
School board members, friends and family all gathered at “The House Kathy Built” to celebrate her retirement with performances by the Waubonsie Valley Show Choir and Neuqua Strings.
The biggest surprise came with the renaming of Neuqua Valley’s Gold Campus. Come August the school will be known as the Katherine J. Birkett Freshman Center.
At the most recent school board meeting the board unanimously decided to rename the school in Doctor Birkett’s honor.
After 35 years in the district she’s ready for the next chapter of her life.
“I am excited. It’s time. Karen Sullivan is going to be a great superintendent and I am excited for what’s ahead,” said Birkett.
